looking forward..

I've honestly never made New Year's resolutions just because I doubt I would stick to them. Funny thing is i said "ok no sweets this year" and what happened at midnight? i happen to be chomping on a cookie. hahhaha what an idiot. my cousin tried to make me feel better too hahaha he was all "umm that could be the last cookie of the year!" tru.. but one minute into the new year and I had already grabbed a second cookie. oh the travesty of it all. tsk..tsk...tsk...

The Great Debaters

Denzel Washington. Standing Ovation. In all honesty, i did not expect anything less. I've yet to catch an unsatisfying movie with Denzel. He takes the character role and he just makes you believe in him whether he is antagonistic or a protagonist... i wish i could say as much for Johnny Depp because i really "heart" Johnny. This is off subject yet Johnny is very humble and shy and that definitely intrigues me about a person who is in the limelight - although - he should really stop doing Tim Burton movies because they are a little oddball. yah yah so is Johnny and i might retract that statement if the Sweeney Todd musical is any good....
Moving on... yah i just got back from going to the movies tonight with my pops. We saw The Great Debaters... i did not know that Oprah was the producer! You can definitely see her touch on the film. I recommend you watch this drama since it pulls together rights, education, motivation, religion, fear and you realize you are able to sit and watch movies as a community because of someone else's dreams.
Denzel is a professor in this movie who chooses 4 students to create a debate team for Wiley College here in Texas. This movie is based on a true story and how this debate team of color advanced to go head on with Harvard - an "anglo saxon" university. Each of the 4 debaters has their own trial/tribulations and of course there are some comical moments to relieve tension in the movie. Oh and i must mention Forest Whitaker as well... he is a preacher in this film and definately a moving character as a father figure to his son who is on the debate team. This film will put you in the 1930's and note the lighting of the scenes, outfits and the articulate word usage.
my dad absolutely loved it and I'm glad he decided to come out and watch a movie with me. '08 is beginning to unfold... little bit of crinkles from '07 that might leave a crease... yet i definately sense change around me.
